Update about the mattress itself:
The mattress, while fitting into the "standard" range, is a bit on the larger side, leading to very snug fit.Almost too snug!Dimensions written on the mattress itself: 52" by 27.5" by 6".There is some rigid material in the mattress meaning there is no floppiness or give as you might expect with a foam mattress.So the fit is very tight getting it into my crib that has rounded rails boarding the top rim all around (might be easier with a sleigh crib!).Anyway, it works but I am sure to have some frustrating middle-of-the-night sheet changes!But I am told this is pretty normal these days.The snug fit of the mattress is safer for the baby.

I searched extensively to find the best simple and non-toxic mattress for my baby's crib and decided upon this one.Really it's got the right materials and is reasonably priced.HOWEVER, marketing titles can be so missleading!I had thought that by ordering this "Organic" Willow , as the Amazon title states, that I was gettting an organic cotton cover, different than the "Natural" Willow mattress that sells for lesser price on the other common online shoping sites (Babiesr, wal world, etc).Guess what?Nope, they are the same exact model, only difference is the title. This Amazon "Organic" and the other sites' "Natural Willow" are the model M5313-C.So basically I paid 30 dollars more and had to wait a longer time to get the same mattress I could have gotten cheaper and quicker from the other sites. I ordered though Amazon, but not the one shipped by default from Target, I chose the other seller (thank goodness!) so that there was no shipping or tax.Still I've been dupped -- a frugal eco-parent falling into the greenmarketing trap.

The mattress arrived today and I was suprised not to see the item labeled "Organic Willow" but rather just "Willow Natural", thus my research.Overall I still think it is a great mattress.The Coconut fiber is organic (not sure that non organic even exists).Still there is probably polyeurethane foam in the quilting and it is manufactured in China -- there is some fireproofing on it (darn it, I thought the cover would be organic!!).I've done the best I can, time to move on.I'll be having the mattress air out to try to get rid of any VOCs until the baby is due.Normally it has the right dimensions for my Pali crib, but at first try (leaving shipping wrapping on in case I wasnted to return it!!) the fit was too tight.I think it will go in fine though once I take the shipping wrapping off.
